Using The Masterson Method to improve performance and well-being in horses

Megan is a passionate and sensitive bodyworker with a lifetime of experience working with and caring for horses. She grew up on a horse farm in New York that was home to the Garrison Pony Club, one of the early US Pony Clubs. She also studies mindfulness and body-based therapies, which is a perfect match for a Masterson Method practitioner.

In The Masterson Method, we partner with the horse to locate and release neuromuscular tension using light touch and range-of-motion techniques while keeping the horse in a relaxed state. We’re activating the horse’s parasympathetic autonomic nervous system to trigger deep relaxation and release of tension that’s been building over time.

Horses are usually curious and even a bit confused when we do our first session. We’re not grooming, tacking, leading or riding. Rather, we’re focusing their attention to restrictions in the body and fostering a relaxed state which is the key to releasing tension. On subsequent sessions, once they acclimate to this bodywork process, horses typically greet practitioners with great enthusiasm.

Megan’s goal as a practitioner is to listen to horses, discover and release any underlying physical issues to improve performance, and help enhance their sense of well-being.

The internet, software, and technology are so pervasive that we can’t remember having ever lived without them. They make our lives simpler, but behind the curtain are fluctuating challenges in protection and monetization—challenges that our firm stays two steps ahead of.
